What to Know About Radon Gas?

Radon gas is a common-place carcinogen. It is proven to cause lung cancer in children and adults.

A large number of homes in the Elwood area have a radon concentration above the carcinogenic amount.

Radon gas comes from the silt, not the house. No property, newly built or longstanding, is fully shielded from radon gas intrusion.

Each and every house meshes with the soil beneath it in a different manner. That is part of the reason why houses next to one another can have majorly different radon levels.

Radon gas accumulation will change on different days and with the seasons within a normal range. A one-time radon gas test measures a small time period and a reliable bellweather of whether or not the structure has a radon gas contamination.

Radon gas has a half-life of only a few days. As such, radon gas accumulation will not be any higher if the house is sealed for years or months.

How Does Radon Gas Filter into your dwelling?

No dwelling is absolutely hermetically sealed.

Gaseous contaminants will infiltrate through any grounded vent in the property such as sump pits, pipeworks, and small gaps in the foundation’s concrete.

The method to know with confidence the saturation of radon in the house is to have a radon test.

Our Radon Testing Procedure

Testing a house for radon is a special service when completed with a house transaction.

Your radon gas specialist will install the radon probes in the property. Radon gas monitors will be dropped off in crawl spaces, the level above crawl spaces, and any room touching earth. Normally several monitors are installed in the home for the radon gas testing.

The radon gas technician will shut all windows, seal the damper on the fireplace, and confirm the heating and cooling system is operating in the prescribed manner. The radon gas expert will additionally seal every required window with tamper indication tape to confirm that closed home requirements are met.

The radon devices remain in the property for 2-3 days to record the prevalance of radon gas in the home. A specialist will come back to the house once the radon testing is complete to recover the devices and create a report.
