Syracuse Radon Testing

What to Know About Radon?

Radon gas is a Class A cancer-causing chemical. Radon gas is proven to cause lung cancer in children and adults.

A large number of properties in the Syracuse area have a radon gas saturation above the dangerous amount.

Radon gas seeps out of the soil, not the structure. No home- new or old – is fully encapsulated against radon gas.

Each property meshes with dirt in a different manner. That is why properties adjoining each other can have majorly different radon levels.

Radon accumulation will shift daily and with the seasons within a reasonable range. A short-term radon sample measures a single day or week and a solid bellwether of whether or not the home has a radon saturation.

Radon gas has a half-life of 3.8 days. Accordingly, radon levels won’t be higher if the property is sealed for years or months.

How Does Radon Penetrate the property?

No property is airtight.

Gas can infiltrate through any ground-facing gap in the house such as sump drains, plumbing, and invisible cracks in the concrete work.

The method to know with certainty the saturation of radon gas in the structure is to have a radon test.

Your Radon Testing Procedure

Testing a house for radon is a unique service when offered alongside a house purchase.

A radon specialist will place the radon analyzers on the property. Radon gas probes are installed in crawl spaces and on the first floor. On average between one and three analyzers are installed in the property for the radon analysis.

The radon gas professional will shut every window and door, shut the flue on the fireplace, and make sure the HVAC system is operating in the required manner. The radon gas specialist will additionally mark all indicated windows with anti-tampering tape to ensure that closed-house requirements are met.

The radon apparatus are stored in the house for two or three days analyzing the prevalence of radon gas in the property. A specialist will return to the structure after the radon measurement is done to remove the monitors and generate a report.
